Madelyn Poe's and Susannah Pugh's Blog
Hey everyone, my name is Susannah Pugh, and I am a Senior from Hernando Mississippi. Last weekend I graduated with a Psychology degree, but that wasn't what was on my mind at all. All I could think about was that we are going to the national tournament. It seems like not long ago I was a freshman experiencing the national tournament for the first time and now in my final year at WBC I get to go back to the tournament with a great group of girls. During my freshman year, the phrase "its all about relationships" came up a lot, and that has been something that has been true about our team every year. I have made some of the best and lifelong friends through being a softball player at WBC and I could not have chosen a better place to be.
NAIA World Series Week - Sioux City, Iowa
Today was a total team effort! From the top of the line up to the bottom we were all having great at bats and working together to pick each other up!
One of the best parts of being part of a team is the teammates! No matter what they are there for you.
Today we were all back in routine and ready to play! A 1-0 victory in the 8th inning in World Series is such a great feeling! We all sat down before the game and had time to think about how far we have come and how we didn't want it to end today! I know I personally was not ready to leave my teammates!
This game was huge for the two of us but we know it took a whole team effort to even get to this point and to get the opportunity to hit and score today!
The day called for some rain but we got our game in on what turned out to be a beautiful day! There were small rain delay in other games but we also got to come back and enjoy the sunset and watch some of our competition!
Hey fam! So I'm sure you all know by now that today didn't exactly go our way.
We had a lot of hard hit balls that went straight to someone and just couldn't come up with that big hit. But don't worry! We are well aware that we are a team that tends to come from behind. 😉
We finished the night with the Open Ceremonies at the field.
Nightie night! 😘🏼
We began our journey to Sioux City, Iowa on Wednesday at 8am! We drove to
Bolivar, MO to get a little practice in and continued our drive to stay the night at Saint Joseph!
After all we all clean up very nicely!
We entered the banquet like royalty on the red carpet! With our star laid out for us and everything!
The whole night was full of great food and entertainment like magic tricks and a photo booth!
Next all of the teams we went into a theatre room where all of the teams were introduced and we got to learn about Sioux City and listen to a variety of speakers!
In all it was a great night with some of our best friends! It was so awesome to get to meet some girls from all over the country and hear all of their funny accents while enjoying the time with our teammates as well! We have to be in bed by 11 tonight to get rest for tomorrow's big game! So goodnight sweet people and keep us in your prayers as we face our first opponent in tomorrow's game!
Day one of traveling complete!
One longgggg bus ride later and we are finally out of the bus for a while! We will be up bright and early tomorrow morning to make it to Sioux City for practice so we are all getting ready for bed. But first we have to have a little game of "Bean-Boozle" thanks to Liz Gatlin. 😁
Nightie night! 😘😴
LSUA Bracket Week
Hey guys! We are so sorry that we are just now getting back to y'all! As you can imagine there was so much going on after our win yesterday! We are so incredibly thankful for the support that y'all have shown us and we can't wait to see what Iowa has in store for us. 😁
We hope to see y'all in Iowa but if not we will make sure to keep y'all involved the best we can! Thank y'all so much! 😘😘
The Champions 😉
Day 5 continued
We left the hotel at 11:30 this morning at 11:30 to head to the field for our pre-tournament practice on the field! At practice our pitchers Rylee and Cat decided to step in for Coach Stolz and interview some of the team. Here is an interview of our good pal Brooke.
They also did an interview with our super confident fans.
I mean according to Daniel it's pretty easy, right? 🏼
Also, in case y'all were worried about the possibility of an alligator encounter, Coach Hendrix has a plan.
So as you can tell practice today was a little entertaining, but don't worry we were also super productive! 🏼
After practice we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the welcome dinner. And let me tell you, four girls in a room with only an hour and to transform from sweaty ball players to showered and presentable young ladies is no easy task.
All four teams were present for dinner. There was a wonderful guest speaker, we exchanged
Hope y'all have enjoyed the blog and all the videos! Here's our last one before the big day tomorrow! ️ nightie night!
Good morning everyone! This morning we had a team devo lead by Senior Hayley Overbay (you probably caught her on the news a couple of nights ago 😉) and Freshman Ashley "Buggy" Lyons. We are so blessed to have these girls!
We also had a little Sunday morning entertainment from Leslie and Erica. I'm sure we all wish we had dance moves this good. 😉😂👯💃🏼
Coming back to campus was a reminder of what we have been working for all season long. We all started to refocus and get our minds set on nationals. Since caf was not open for dinner, Larry's Pizza would just have to do. Many pizzas later we all returned to the empty dorms to try and entertain ourselves for the rest of the night.
