Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College women's and men's track and field programs traveled to Greenville College in Greenville, Ill., on Monday to compete in the American Midwest Conference Championships. The Lady Eagles finished seventh with 30 points, while the Eagles finished in eighth place with 14 points.
The relays helped WBC secure a total of 10 points. They scored five points in the 4X800 relay with a time of 13:08. Andrea Gayton (SO/Batesville, Ark.), Rachel O'Bryan (SR/Cleveland, Texas), Breana Roberts (SO/Maynard, Ark.) and Lauren Garrison (JR/Batesville, Ark.) combined to finish in fourth place.
The 4X100 relay scored the team three points with a sixth place finish. Dara Britton (JR/Raytown, Mo.), Marina Cacho (JR/Mandeville, La.), Lezlee Bennett (SO/Pocahontas, Ark.), and Taylor Johnson (FR/Hillsboro, Mo.) finished in 59:96.
Betsy Ryan (JR/Harrison, Ark.) scored five points with a time of 12:54 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. She finished in fourth place, in front of her teammate Hannah Roberts (JR/Maynard, Ark.), who ran it in 12:57 and finished in fifth place with four points.
The same two runners finished back-to-back in the 800 meter run. This time, Roberts edged Ryan with a fifth place finish, scoring four points for WBC. Her time was 2:38.45. Betsy Ryan scored three points with sixth place finish and a time of 2:38.99.
Lauren Garrison secured two points with a seventh place finish in the 1,500 meter run. She finished in 5:36. Kristen Smith (SO/Bono, Ark.) finished in seventh place in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 48:55. This earned the Lady Eagles two points as well.
The Eagles finished with 14 points and an eighth place. As with the women's, the men used the relays to their advantage, securing nine points in the relays.
The 4X100 team of Josiah Marlow (FR/Imboden, Ark.), John Fairris (JR/Strong, Ark.), John Guyton (FR/Blytheville, Ark.), and Dmariyae Banks (FR/Searcy, Ark.) finish with a time of 46.23, earning five points with a fourth place finish.
A seventh place finish in the 4X800 meter run earned WBC two points. Joey Colvert (FR/Bryant, Ark.), Levi Yarbro (SO/Powhatan, Ark.), Jack Wafler (FR/Bartlett, Tenn.), and Antonio Santos (JR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) finished the event in 9:28.
Individually, John Guyton earned two points in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03. He finished in seventh place in the event. John Fairris finished in eighth place in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 37:40. He also earned a point in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:39.
