ST. LOUIS – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has announced its softball Player of the Week awards, for the week ending April 9, 2017, and the awards went to Williams Baptist College and Hannibal-LaGrange University. Laura Helmich (FR/Avilla, Ark. ) claimed the AMC Pitcher of the Week award, while Haley Zeier of Hannibal-LaGrange took the AMC Player of the Week honor. The honor for Helmich is her second of the season.
Helmich, a 5-10 freshman right-hander from Avilla, Ark., was dominant in the circle in her two outings on the week, but her best outing of the week came on Friday afternoon. On Friday, she fired her first career no-hitter, holding the bats of the Missouri Baptist University Spartans silent through seven innings. She struck out seven in the game, which followed up a two-hit shutout she had thrown earlier in the week against Central Baptist College. On the week, she allowed two hits and one walk in 14 innings, striking out 13 in the two games. She also shined at the plate, belting a two-run homer to supply the only offense in the 2-0 no-hitter against Missouri Baptist.
Zeier, a 5-5 senior First Baseman from Edwardsville, Ill., recorded only nine official at bats during the week, but she made the most of them. She posted a 9-for-11 (.818) week, with two doubles, a homer, two walks, four runs scored, and six RBIs. Her week helped the Trojans to a 3-1 week, and she is hitting .409 on the season, including .415 in AMC play.

Mallory Land – Park
Land was 9-for-13 (.692) on the week, including a 4-for-4 game to start the week against Stephens College. In that game, she had a double and a homer, with four runs scored and four RBIs.
