The 19th ranked Lady Eagles hosted a pair of American Midwest Conference opponents over the weekend at the Lady Eagle Field. Williams walked away with four convincing victories. First, they swept Missouri Baptist University 2-0 and 8-1 on Friday, and then followed up by beating Harris-Stowe State University 8-0 (5 innings) and 6-1 in the series finale on senior day.
Alexis Ingram (SR/Quitman, Ark. ) and Rylee Rogers (SR/Conyers, Ga. ) were honored for their four years as student-athletes for WBC. "We are very proud of Rylee and Alexis. They have worked hard on the field and in the classroom over the last four years. They have big things ahead for them, and we could not be happier for the time we have had with them at Williams. They have been an integral part of our success over the last four years. We will miss them dearly, but I am excited for their futures, and all that they will continue to accomplish," said Head Coach Laura Tucker.
The weekend could not have gotten off to a better start for the Lady Eagles. Laura Helmich (FR/Avilla, Ark. ) took the circle looking for her 11th win of the season, and the freshman was dominate, throwing her first collegiate no-hitter. Two runners reached base via errors against WBC, and one reached on a hit-by-pitch. MBU recorded zero hits, and Helmich struck out seven batters.
The complete game shutout was her second in a row, after throwing a two-hitter earlier in the week. The ace also provided the offense for WBC with a 2-run home run in the fourth inning. The home run scored Jessica Dobbins (JR/Bradley, Ark. ), who was 2-for-3 in the game with a run scored. It was Helmich's fourth home run of the season.
The Avilla, Ark., native improved her record to 11-2 on the season. Her .135 opponents' batting average ranks third in the NAIA. Her .76 ERA is seventh. She has only allowed nine earned runs in 83 innings pitched.
"Laura has thrown really well for us as a freshman. It is great that she threw a no-hitter against a strong team. It is rare for a player to throw a no-hitter and hit a 2-run home run in the same game. We are super proud of her," said Head Coach Laura Tucker.
The Lady Eagles went for the sweep in game two. The offense woke for ten singles in the game, which led to eight runs. Rylee Rogers shut down the Spartans, allowing only two hits and one run. She struck out eight batters, while only walking one in the 8-1 victory.
SR Day Shutout:
Rylee Rogers and Alexis Ingram celebrated senior day against Harris-Stowe State University. Rogers pitched a complete game shutout, while Ingram went 1-for-2 with a run scored as WBC won 8-0 in five innings.
Rylee Rogers finished the game with nine strikeouts, while allowing four hits and one walk. Offensively, Brooke Mason went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Jaye Chalk (FR/Gravette, Ark. ) had a pinch-hit two RBI double.
Game Two Win:
WBC completed the senior day sweep in game two with a 6-1 victory. Cat Totty (SO/Haslet, Texas) earned her first win of the season from the circle, throwing five innings and allowing one run on two hits.
Williams is on an eight game win streak in the conference. They sit in second place in the American Midwest Conference. They are one game behind Columbia College, who is in first place.
