First Quarter Struggles:
The Lady Eagles from Williams Baptist College hosted the Spartans from Missouri Baptist University on Thursday evening. Despite double-doubles by Andrea Moffitt (SR/Lexington, Tenn. ) and Taylar Harris (JR/Joiner, Ark. ), WBC dropped the game 61-55.
A strong first quarter by the Spartans proved to be the difference, as WBC got off to a slow start. Williams made just 4-of-16 in the first frame, on their way to 10 points. Five turnovers proved costly, as MBU took advantage to go 8-for-15 from the floor on their way to score 21 points. This gave them a 21-10 lead after one period of play.
The Lady Eagles found their groove in the second quarter, outscoring MBU 16-to-13. This brought the halftime score to 34-26 in favor of the Spartans.
Neither team could get the offense going in the third quarter. The teams combined to go 6-of-28 from the field, as MBU outscored WBC 9-to-8.
Williams looked to make a comeback in the fourth, getting as close as four points, but MBU held their nerve to win the game 61-55.
Inside the Box Score:
The free throw percentage proved substantial, as MBU made 17-of-24, while WBC slumped to 7-of-15.
However, the Lady Eagles bench outscored Missouri Baptist 27-to-13 in the contest. Williams also doubled up MBU in second chance scoring, 12 compared to just six.
Andrea Moffitt collected her seventh double-double on the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Taylar Harris recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Tashanescii Walker (FR/Jonesboro, Ark. ) scored 12 points and came up one rebound short of her own double-double.
Rounding up the scoring was Alytrius Perry (SR/Marked Tree, Ark. ) with nine, Taylor Williams (SR/Mountain Home, Ark. ) five, Kate Junkersfeld (FR/Pocahontas, Ark. ) four, Da'Monique Brown (JR/Luxora, Ark. ) three, and Alexus Clardy (SR/Conway, Ark. ) one.
Williams remains a ½ game out of the final playoff spot with one game remaining. If the Lady Eagles win on Saturday, Feb. 25, they will go to the American Midwest Conference Tournament as the eighth seed.
