The Williams Baptist College indoor track and field team's (men's and women's) traveled to Warrensburg, Mo., to compete in the Mule Relays over the weekend. The Lady Eagles and Eagles competed well against strong competition.
The highest finisher for Williams came in the 400 meter event. Matthew Bagby (FR/Bryant, Ark.) finished in 15th place with a time of 52.94. Also, in the event Marlon Benevides (SR/Jundiai-SP, Brazil) finished 36th place with 56.78, Diego Santillan (SR/Tamaulipas, Mexico) 58.02 (39th), and Alex Cowgill (FR/East Prairie, Mo.) 66.66 seconds (40th).
Following him, the Lady Eagles placed 17th, 18th, and 19th in the one mile run. Betsy Ryan (JR/Harrison, Ark.) led the way with a time of 6:19, followed by Kristen Smith (SO/Bono, Ark.) (6:27) and Lauren Garrison (JR/Batesville, Ark.) (6:36). Ryan also finished the 3,000 meter event in 19th place with a time of 12:42, while Smith finished in 20th with a time of 12:43.
Andrea Gayton (SO/Batesville, Ark.) finished in 24th place in the 3,000 meter with a time of 14:01.
The men's mile race saw five Eagles finish. John Fairris (JR/Strong, Ark.) ran his mile in 4:53 (24th place), John Guyton (FR/Blytheville, Ark.) ran it in 4:56 (26th place), Antonio Santos ran it in 5:10 (32nd place), Levi Yarbro (SO/Powhatan, Ark.) ran it in 5:28 (34th place), and Patrick Ponder finished in 5:29 for 35th place.
Tori Lovelady (FR/Beebe, Ark.) finished in 33th place in the shot put with a distance of 7.87 meters. On the men's side, Alex Cowgill finished in 46th place with a distance of 10.15, while Noah Stoddard (JR/Paragould, Ark.) hit a distance of 7.94 meters, which placed him in 53rd place.
In the women's 60 meter race, the Lady Eagles had four finishers. The finished in the 51, 52, 53, and 54th places. Dara Britton (JR/Raytown, Mo.) ran it in 9.53, Marina Cacho (JR/Mandeville, La.) 9.56, Maria Ramirez (JR/White Hall, Ark.) 9.90, and Rachel O'Bryan (SR/Cleveland, Texas) 9.97 seconds.
On the men's side, Matthew Bagby ran it in 7.42 seconds, while Dmariyae Banks (FR/Searcy, Ark.) finished in 7.43 seconds and Josiah Marlow (FR/Imboden, Ark.) finished in 7.47. They placed in 44th, 46th, and 48th.
The women's 800 meter event saw two finishers. Sisters Hannah Roberts (JR/Maynard, Ark.) and Breana Roberts (SO/Maynard, Ark.) finished 24th and 30th. Hannah Roberts ran it in 2:42, while Breana Roberts finished in 3:09.
The track and field teams will travel to Elsah, Ill., on Feb. 17, for the American Midwest Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Championships.
