Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College men's cross-country team secured its third top five finish of the 2016 season on Saturday, in Clinton, Miss. The Eagles finished fifth out of eight teams in the second division of the Choctaw Open 8K run.
Alex Van Herpen (SO/Mansfield, Ark. ) finished narrowly outside of the top ten with his time of 27:56 for 11th place in the D2/NAIA Division. Jay Fairris (28:22, 19th) gave the Eagles their second runner within the top-20.
John Guyton (FR/Blytheville, Ark. ) (28:48, 23rd) and Tracy Allen Jr. (JR/Wilson, Ark. ), (29:57, 39th) were the third and fourth Eagle runners to cross the finish line, and both did so within the top-50.
The rest of the times for WBC in the Choctaw Open were: Levi Yarbro (SO/Powhatan, Ark. ) (32:07, 52nd), Patrick Ponder (FR/Imboden, Ark. ) (32:12, 53rd), Antonio Carlos (33:19, 56th), Theron Newberry (FR/Paragould, Ark. ) (34:20, 60th), Dakota Dwyer (JR/Gassville, Ark. ) (34:28, 62nd) and Alex Cowgill (FR/East Prairie, Mo.) (35:53, 64th).
The next event for the Williams cross country team will be the St. Louis Fall Cross Country Classic on Saturday, October 22, in St. Louis, Mo. The race time is TBA.
