Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College Lady Eagles cross country team traveled to Clinton, Miss., on Saturday to compete in the Choctaw Open. Williams finished seventh out of ten teams in the event.
There were several NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II schools that competed in the event, and the scores were divided up into two different divisions.
Hannah Roberts (JR/Maynard, Ark. ) was the first Lady Eagle to cross the finish line. Her time of 20:50 was good for 30th overall. Betsy Ryan (JR/Harrison, Ark. ) (21:44, 42nd) and Kristen Smith (SO/Bono, Ark. ) (21:45, 43rd) were the second and third WBC runners to finish, respectively.
Erica Arguello (SO/San Antonio, Texas) (21:50, 45th) and Jessie Powell (FR/Imboden, Ark. ) (23:22, 55th) finished fourth and fifth for WIlliams. Rounding out the rest of the times were: Andrea Gayton (SO/Batesville, Ark. ) (24:11, 58th), Rachel O'Bryan (SR/Cleveland, Texas) (25:30, 65th), Breana Roberts (SO/Maynard, Ark. ) (26:11, 69th) and Bethany Cummins (SR/Chiang Mai, Thailand) (26:24, 71st).
This was the third seventh place finish for the Williams Baptist College cross-country team in the 2016 season.
The next event for the Lady Eagles is the St. Louis Fall Cross Country Classic on Saturday, October 22, in St. Louis, Mo. The start of the race is TBA.
