Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College women's cross-country team competed in the Maryville University Open in St. Louis, Mo., on Saturday. The Lady Eagles finished sixth out of eleven teams in the event.
Williams was the third American Midwest Conference school in the standings. The Lady Eagles finished behind Columbia College (4th) and Missouri Baptist University (5th) and placed ahead of St. Louis College of Pharmacy (9th) and Stephens College (10th).
Hannah Roberts (JR/Maynard, Ark. ) was the highest finishing Lady Eagle with her time of 21:47 for 17th place. Betsy Ryan (JR/Harrison, Ark. ) also finished within the top 25 with her time of 22:25. Ryan's time placed her 21st overall.
Erica Arguello (SO/San Antonio, Texas) (23:55, 36th), Kristen Smith (SO/Bono, Ark. ) (24:24, 43rd) & Jessie Powell (FR/Imboden, Ark. ) (25:45, 50th) all finished within the top-50 performers. Andrea Gayton (SO/Batesville, Ark. ) (26:54, 58th) and Rachel O'Bryan (SR/Cleveland, Texas) (28:32, 66th) rounded out the times for WBC.
"Our women ran well considering the wet and muddy conditions," said Head Coach Andrew Watson. "I am proud of how our team is meshing as we prepare for the next meet."
The next meet for the Lady Eagles will be the Chili Pepper Festival on Saturday, October 1. The women's 5K run is scheduled for 10:15 a.m., in Fayetteville, Ark.
