The Williams Baptist College baseball team traveled to St. Louis, Mo., this past weekend for a three game American Midwest Conference set against the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State University. The Eagles also traveled to Paragould, Ark., on Tuesday for a two game non-conference doubleheader against Crowley's Ridge College. The Eagles were able to win the three-game set of the series against the Hornets by winning the first and last game. Williams then swept CRC on Tuesday.
WBC won the first game of the series by pounding out 17 runs on 16 hits to end the game early in seven innings. Pedro Lopez (JR/Naples. Fla.) and Tyler Eudy (SO/Jonesboro, Ark.) led the Eagles at the plate with their 3-for-4 outings. Lopez had a double, pair of RBIs and scored a game-high 4 runs. Eudy smashed his second homerun of the season in the game and added a double and pair of RBIs. In addition, Seth Hart (JR/Sedgwick, Ark. ), Michael Ludwig (SR/Heber Springs, Ark.), Braxton Rhodes (SO/Fayette, Ala.), Tanner Murray (SR/Piggott, Ark.) and Tucker Smith (SR/Horn Lake, Miss.) all added two hits, respectively. Dalton Freshour (JR/West Plains, Mo.) earned his third win of the season on the mound. He threw six innings, gave up four hits, one earned run, on three walks and he added a strikeout.
Williams dropped the second game of the series 5-1. The Eagles only managed a pair of hits and were led by Eric Kent (SR/Ft. Madison, Iowa)'s 1-for-2 day. Kent added one RBI in the loss.
The Eagles rebounded after game two's setback and won the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday 10-7. Ludwig had a 2-for-2 outing with three runs scored and two stolen bases. Lopez added a 2-for-5 outing with two RBIs. Eric Kent went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and one RBI. Tyler Eudy went 1-for-3 with a home run and a game-high 4 RBIs.
Braxton Rhodes earned his seventh win of the year on the mound in the victory. He threw six innings, nine hits, four earned runs, three walks and four strikeouts. Anthony Noftsger (JR/Green Forest, Ark.) picked up the save throwing the final three innings of the contest.
Williams pounded out 43 runs on 37 hits in only ten innings of work to sweep Tuesday's doubleheader against Crowley's Ridge College.
In game one, WBC scored 11 runs in both the second and third innings en route to a season-high 24 runs scored. This is the most runs the team has scored since at least the 2007-08 season.
Dylan Disotell (SR/Junction City, Ark.) earned the win on the mound throwing three innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, one walk and he added a pair of strikeouts.
Offensively, Eric Kent produced his best outing of the year. He went 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double, six RBIs and three runs scored. Tyler Eudy finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Braxton Rhodes added a 3-for-4 outing with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBIs. Tanner Murray went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Michael Ludwig finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Pedro Lopez added a 2-for-2 day with a double, RBI and three runs scored. Tucker Smith went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Ryan Cupp (JR/Paragould, Ark.) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Nick Scott (JR/Jacksonville, Fla.) added three RBIs.
In game two, Josh McKeithen (SO/Commerce, Texas) picked up the win on the mound in the start. Offensively, Cole Sheffer (FR/Paragould, Ark.) went 4-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and four runs scored to lead the team. Ludwig went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored. Seth Hart added a 2-for-2 outing with two runs scored. Ryan Shelton (SR/Brentwood, Tenn.) and Tyler Cole (FR/Jonesboro, Ark.) also drove in two runs.
The next games for the WBC baseball team will be against Lyon College on Thursday, April 28. The doubleheader will start at 1 p.m., at Shell Field. The Eagles will wrap up regular season and AMC play this weekend before traveling to Freed-Hardeman University next week for the AMC Tournament.
