Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College women's cross country team traveled to Henderson, Tenn., on Friday to compete in the American Midwest Conference Championships. Williams finished third out of ten teams in the meet.
WBC had two runners place with top-10 times in the championships. Betsy Minkler (SO/Bakersfield, Mo. ) (20:46, 8th) and Addy Swaim (SO/Vilonia, Ark. ) (20:55, 10th) earned all-conference honors for placing within the top-10. They are the first pair of all-conference runners since the program was re-established.
"Betsy had an outstanding year and was consistently one of the top runners in the conference. She is so competitive as an athlete and that competitiveness drives her to get better every day," stated Head Coach Andrew Watson. "Addy has improved so much from her first to second year. Her hard work throughout the off-season and summer was a major reason for her success. It has been awesome seeing her develop into an all conference runner," added Watson.
Kristen Smith (FR/Bono, Ark. ) (23:09, 33rd), Breana Roberts (FR/Maynard, Ark. ) (24:33, 44th), Andrea Gayton (FR/Batesville, Ark. ) (25:20, 46th) and Rachel O'Bryan (JR/Cleveland, Texas) (27:07, 58th) rounded out the times for the team.
Williams finished the year with two top-three finishes and a pair of top-two finishes in its second season.
