Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College Eagles baseball team defeated Lindenwood University-Belleville on Friday night by a score of 4-0. LU-B rallied, however, and snagged wins of 4-1 and 5-2 on Saturday to take two-of-three from the series.
WBC won game one on the strength of Braxton Rhodes (FR/Fayette, Ala. )'s arm. Rhodes carried a no-hitter until the ninth inning of the game. He went the distance in the shutout, surrendering only one hit while striking out six batters.
The Eagles pounded out 11 hits in game one. Brennan Pugh (JR/Houston, Miss. ) led the team with a 3-for-5 day at the plate, which included an RBI. Ryan Shelton (JR/Brentwood, Tenn. ) went 2-for-5 and Alex Camp (FR/Jonesboro, Ark. ) went 2-for-2.
Williams lost game two 4-1. Ethan Quarles (JR/Millington, Tenn.) took the hard luck loss in the game. He surrendered four runs, none of them earned, on eight hits, with one strikeout. Kagen Brown (SO/Jonesboro, Ark. ) went 2-for-3 and Shelton finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Williams outhit the Lynx 10-9 in game three, but only plated two runs in the 5-2 loss. Dylan Disotell (JR/Junction City, Ark.) turned in a quality start of six innings, three earned runs and surrendered seven hits. Tucker Smith (JR/Southaven, Miss. ) and Pugh both finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
Williams is now 8-16 overall and 4-8 in the American Midwest Conference. The Eagles play again on Tuesday, March 31, against Morthland College and Hannibal-LaGrange University. WBC will host Morthland at 12 p.m., then travel to Bland Park in Paragould, Ark., for a makeup conference game against the Trojans at 6:30 p.m.
