Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College men's baseball team travelled to Fulton, Mo., for a three-game series with William Woods University over the weekend. The Eagles came away with one win and two losses. Game one finished 5-1 in favor of WBC, followed by 3-7 and 0-3 losses.
Braxton Rhodes (FR/Fayette, Ala. ) came away from the mound with the win in game one, as he threw seven innings, allowing six hits and one run. He struck out six Owls hitters, while walking one. He held WWU to one run in the 5-1 victory.
The Eagles were able to score five runs on three hits. Alex Camp (FR/Jonesboro, Ark. ) led the offensive charge going 1-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Ryan Shelton (JR/Brentwood, Tenn. ) drove in two runs on a 1-for-4 day at the plate as well. Tanner Murray (JR/Piggott, Ark. ) had WBC's lone extra-base hit with a double.
Despite having more hits in game two, the Eagles lost 7-3. They massed seven singles in the contest. Rhodes had his fifth multi-hit game of his freshman campaign, going 2-for-2 with a walk. He also added a stolen base. He leads the team with a .391 batting average.
Game three saw a pitching battle end with a 3-0 win for Woods. Dylan Disotell (JR/Junction City, Ark.) threw 7.1 innings of shutout baseball. He allowed four hits, while striking out three. Shelton led the Eagles in offense with two doubles in four plate appearances. He now has eight doubles on the season.
WBC's record is 7-12 overall and 3-4 in the American Midwest Conference after the three game set. They will travel to Lyon College on Tuesday, March 24, for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
