Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College baseball squad traveled to Arlington, Texas, this past weekend to open its season. The Eagles came away with two wins and two losses from the four-game series against Arlington Baptist College.
Williams took game one with a convincing 9-3 victory. Starting pitcher Dylan Disotell (JR/Junction City, Ark.) went three innings, allowing three hits and one run. He made way for Dylan Clark (JR/Bono, Ark. ) who became the pitcher of record, earning the win in the game.
Tanner Murray (JR/Piggott, Ark. ) led WBC's offense by going 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI's and two runs scored. Ryan Cupp (SO/Paragould, Ark. ) also went deep for the Eagles. The offense outhit Arlington Baptist 9-to-5 in the contest.
The Eagles dropped game three 7-4. Blake Coffman (SR/Keiser, Ark. ) led the offense going 3-for-4 from the dish with one RBI. The teams each compiled ten hits in the contest but a late rally fell short for Williams. Ethan Quarles (JR/Millington, Tenn.) became the pitcher of record and was credited with the loss from the mound.
WBC bounced back in the series finale, winning 18-12 and earning a series split. The Eagles compiled 21 hits, including eight extra-base knocks. Eric Kent (JR/Ft. Madison, Iowa) and Daniel Lester (FR/Merritt Island, Fla. ) each hit home runs in the contest.
Kyle Hooker (SR/Alvin, Texas) earned the win, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit.
WBC's record sits at 2-2 for the season. They host Central Baptist College in doubleheaders on Feb. 13 and Feb. 14. Both days the games will begin at noon and will be played at Shell Field.
