Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College men's basketball team faced Lyon College in a battle for second place in the American Midwest Conference. Lyon wound up on top by edging the Eagles 66-58. The match was held Saturday afternoon in Batesville, Ark.
Williams fell behind 9-0 early, but raced back to hold a slim 30-27 advantage going into the half. Lyon fought back and outscored the Eagles 39-28 in the second frame. The game saw four ties and eight lead changes.
Tevin Howard (JR/Luxora, Ark.) scored 12 points on four three-point field goals to lead WBC. Stanley Malcom (JR/Chicago, Ill.) had a balanced line of 11 points, five rebounds and five assists. James McClain (SR/Covington, Tenn. ) also added 11 points and five rebounds. Lyon (9-5, 6-1 AMC) had five players in double-figures and was led by Riley Jenkins and Ben Worlow, who each finished with 15 points.
Williams is now 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the AMC. The Eagles will host the 10th ranked Lions of Freed-Hardeman University on Tuesday, January 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., in the Southerland-Mabee Center.
