Walnut Ridge, Ark. – Pocahontas High School swept both the senior girls and senior boys titles at the 56th annual Williams Baptist College High School Tournament. This was the first time a single school has swept both titles since Marmaduke last accomplished the feat in 2002.
The road to the title for the fourth-seeded Lady Redskins started with a 46-35 win over the fifth seed Tuckerman. Pocahontas then upset top seed and three-time defending champion Marmaduke 50-45 in the semi-finals before cruising to a 54-31 victory over the third-seeded Lady Southerners of Southside.
The second seeded Redskins started their tournament run with a highly contested 58-53 win over the seventh seeded Bobcats of Walnut Ridge. Pocahontas then defeated Westside the following night 60-54 to advance to the finals against the top seeded Yellowjackets of Bay High School. The Redskins rolled to an 88-69 victory.
The win for the Lady Redskins was the second WBC title and the first since 2010 for the team. The win for the Redskins was its third WBC title and the first since 2011.
