Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The Williams Baptist College men's basketball team opened its 2014-2015 season against the Pioneers of Crowley's Ridge College on Tuesday night. CRC managed to defend its home court, winning by a final of 86-77.
The game remained competitive in the first half of play, as CRC was held a 39-35 advantage at the end of the half. The Pioneers capitalized on foul trouble from WBC, however, to push out to as much as a 17-point lead in the second half. Williams fought hard at the end, but the comeback attempt came up short.
For WBC, Tevin Howard (JR/Luxora, Ark.) scored 22 points to lead the Eagles. Carter Clerveaux (SR/Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and James McClain (SR/Covington, Tenn. ) also had 15 points. Abel Yekeh (JR/Newark, N.J.) had 14 points and nine rebounds. Roy Marshall led all scorers with 29 points for the Pioneers and Quinn Cooper added 24 points.
As a team, Williams shot 43% from the floor on 29-of-68 shooting. CRC shot 29-of-51 overall, which included a 17-of-28 advantage in the second half.
Williams is now 0-1 for the season. Its next contest is against Ecclesia College on Thursday, November 6th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., in Springdale, Ark.
