Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The Williams Baptist College baseball team traveled to Springfield, Ill., over the weekend and played an American Midwest Conference series against Benedictine University at Springfield. The Bulldogs were able to sweep the three contests, winning by a score of 7-0 on Friday, and 10-0 and 3-2 on Saturday.
The final game of the series came down to the final inning, as the contest was tied at 1-1 at the end of seven innings. Kendall Fay knocked in an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to WBC a 2-1 advantage. The Bulldogs rallied and scored two runs in the bottom half of the frame, however, to escape with a 3-2 win.
Fay led the game's offensive attack with a 3-for-4 performance. Jon Coburn and Seth Hart posted 2-for-4 days, respectively. Cade Sawyer threw 6.1 innings, surrendering only four hits, one earned run, while posting three strikeouts. The Eagles out-hit Benedictine 12-7 in game three.
