Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The Eagles from Williams Baptist College won their first series of the season this past weekend. They played five total games for the week, including a two game set against Victory University and a three game series against Blue Mountain College.
The week began when the team traveled to Memphis, Tenn., to play Victory in a doubleheader. Williams lost two close games, 5-6 and 9-6.
The Eagles would bounce back Friday and Saturday against BMC played at Shell Field in Walnut Ridge, taking two of three in the weekend series. After losing the first game 2-7, they notched 8-6 and 12-6 victories.
Jim Manney was the star in the weekend series, going 4-of-11 from the plate with three homeruns and four RBI's. Blake Coffman also had a scorching bat, going 7-of-13 from the batter's box.
Dylan Disotell earned the win in the second game of the series by throwing two innings in relief. He gave up three hits and no runs. The bullpen combined to throw three innings of relief without a Blue Mountain run crossing the plate.
Drew Tullos earned the victory in the rubber match of the series. He relieved Cody Stause after Stause went down with an injury. Tullos went four innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out six batters.
Williams' record improved to 2-9 on the young season. They will be back in action on Tuesday, February 19, when they travel to College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo. They will return home for a three game set with Culver-Stockton University on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23. The doubleheader on Friday will begin at noon, and the final game will be played on Saturday at noon.
