Rachel Pirtle (SR/El Paso, Texas) had a career high (four set) 14 kills to lead Williams Baptist College past Fisk University on Monday night. The Lady Eagles won 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 24-26, 25-13) in front of a large crowd at the Southerland-Mabee Center in Walnut Ridge.
Both teams finished the match with a total of 48 kills, but WBC only committed 24 attack errors, compared to 33 for Fisk.
Audra Nailling (JR/Paragould, Ark. ) finished with nine kills. While, Alyssa Leatherman (JR/Walnut Ridge, Ark.) and Shelby Wallace (SR/Jonesboro, Ark. ) finished with eight apiece. Bridget Park (SO/Grants Pass, Ore.) and Kayla Winfrey (SR/Marion, Ark.) added four kills each, followed by Kayla Green (FR/Beebe, Ark.) who finished with one.
Pirtle also contributed with two solo and two assisted blocks in the match. She now has a team high 20 solo blocks. Leatherman and Nailling each shared two assisted blocks in the match. While, Park and Winfrey had one assisted block apiece.
Winfrey continued to provide assists, finishing with 36 in the match. Three Lady Eagles finished with an ace in the contest, with Winfrey, Wallace, and Makenzie Moore (SR/Nikiski, Alaska) each earning one.
Moore led the team with 23 digs. She now has 262 on the season. Wallace (15), Leatherman (14), and Winfrey (10) were the other WBC players to record double-figure digs in the contest.
Williams will travel Highway 412 to Paragould, Ark., for a tri-match on Tuesday, Oct. 17. They will play University of Arkansas-Monticello at 6 p.m., followed by Crowley's Ridge College at 8 p.m. WBC has already beaten CRC once this season (3-0).
