Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College cross country programs traveled to Hollister, Mo., to race in the Ozarks Ambush, hosted by College of the Ozarks. Both teams finished in third place out of five teams at Saturday's meet. John Guyton (SO/Blytheville, Ark.) led the Eagles with a ninth place finish, while Betsy Ryan (SR/Harrison, Ark.) finished eighth in the women's race.
The Eagles finished in third place after having four runners finish in the top 20. Guyton led the way with a time of 17:33 in the 5km race. Following him were John Fairris (SR/Strong, Ark.) (14th place) in 18:00, Justin Stevens (SR/McMinnville, Ore.) (15th place) in 18:12, and Alex Van Herpen (JR/Mansfield, Ark.) (18th place) in 18:51.
The Lady Eagles finished in third place after having two runners finish in the top 10. Ryan led the way with a time of 21:37, good enough for eighth place, while Hannah Roberts (SR/Maynard, Ark.) finished in 10th place with a time of 21:57.
Other finishers for WBC were Kristen Smith (JR/Bono, Ark.) with a time of 24:06 (18th place), Lauren Garrison (SR/Batesville, Ark.) 24:53 (20th place), Andrea Gayton (JR/Batesville, Ark.) 26:41 (22nd place), and Breana Roberts (JR/Maynard, Ark.) 27:21 in 23rd place.
This is the second straight top three finish for both teams, after both won their opening meet at the Lyon College Invitational.
Next up for the program is the prestigious Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. The race will held on September 30, and is being hosted by the University of Arkansas.
