Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College Eagles Cross Country squad traveled to Batesville, Ark., to compete in their first meet of the season at the Lyon College Invitational. John Fairris (SR/Strong, Ark.) won the race, leading WBC to the dual victory over Central Baptist College.
John Fairris led the way for the Eagles, as they had the first six place finishers. He finished the four mile race in 23:47. Closely following him was, John Guyton (SO/Blytheville, Ark.) (23:50) who finished second. Alex Van Herpen (JR/Mansfield, Ark.) (25:44), Jack Wafler (26:14), and Davis Fetzer (SR/Defiance, Mo.) (26:39) rounded up the top five for WBC.
Fairris became the first Eagle to win a race in the program's history.
"I am really proud of our team today. To win an individual and a team championship is a big deal," said Head Coach Andrew Watson.
The team finished with a perfect score of 15, while Central Baptist College finished with 48 points.
The Eagles will take part in the College of Ozarks Invitational on Sept. 9. This meet will be held in Hollister, Mo.
