Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Teams have been released. Williams Baptist College wrestler Josh Chiles (JR/Little Rock, Ark. ) has become the first Eagle wrestler to land the prestigious honor. The honor is selected by the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA).
In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must achieve success in competition, as well as have a minimum of 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale at the nominating institution.
The Little Rock, Ark., native is studying Biology at WBC.
Chiles adds to a memorable year, in which he earned All-American honors, finishing in fourth place at the NAIA National Championship. He was the first wrestler that graduated from an Arkansas high school to earn All-American honors in the sport of wrestling at any level.
The 184 lb., division athlete won a conference championship, was named All-Conference and academic all-conference for this past season.
Chiles will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-American team ballot. He along with the other All-District members will have a chance to become first, second, or third team Academic All-Americans. This will be announced in June. One athlete in the school's history has earned this honor. Softball player Karisa Hendrix was named to the Academic All-American Team in 2013.
